Baden-Württemberg: Heidenheim wants to stay in the promotion race

Heidenheim (dpa/lsw) - 1. FC Heidenheim wants to defend its good starting position in the race for promotion to the Bundesliga in the home game against 1. FC Nuremberg. "We are third and want to defend this place and see if we can do better," said coach Frank Schmidt two days before the game on Sunday (1.30 p.m. / Sky). "But there are still many games to be played in which FCH is not the favourite."

Schmidt does not see his team as clear favorites against the club either, although the starting position is clear. Heidenheim is playing for promotion, the troubled Franconians are currently only just away from the relegation places. "The club had completely different goals, but they still have a good team," warned Schmidt. "It's difficult to score goals against them."

Schmidt and FCN trainer Markus Weinzierl had acquired the football teacher license together in 2011, both were even sitting next to each other at the time. But they haven't had much contact lately. "There was little time to exchange ideas," said Schmidt.
