Baden-Württemberg: Hermann wants a massive expansion of the charging points for e-cars

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Transport Minister Winfried Hermann (Greens) wants to achieve the country's ambitious climate protection goals with a bundle of measures. Around two million private and around 60,000 to 100,000 public charging points for electric cars are to be created, car traffic in the cities reduced and the range of buses and trains expanded, as Hermann announced on Friday in Stuttgart. He presented the cornerstones of the state concept for mobility and climate. "Effective measures that we can use to turn around traffic and thus improve the quality of life in our villages and towns are on the table."

The targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions are set out in the Baden-Württemberg Climate Protection Act. By 2030, 55 percent CO2 must be saved in traffic. Green-Black is aiming for climate neutrality by 2040. This means that only as many greenhouse gases may be emitted as can be bound again.

In order to achieve this, among other things, the proportion of bicycle traffic should increase from 10 to 20 percent by 2030 and that of pedestrian traffic from 21 percent to 30 percent, as Hermann confirmed. A reliable offer should be created for buses and trains with the help of a mobility guarantee from 5 a.m. to midnight.
