Baden-Württemberg: Love from private to political: new exhibition

Stuttgart (dpa/lsw) - Whether in film, music, art or everyday life - love has always been a favorite topic in and by societies. Now the House of History Baden-Württemberg in Stuttgart is dedicated to one of the most beautiful feelings and also highlights the less beautiful sides. Around 200 objects from 200 years are presented under the title "Love. What moves us". The exhibition can be seen from this Friday (October 14) until July 23, 2023, it is the last part of a trilogy.

"40 stories tell how love can change society - but also how love is regulated in reverse," said director Paula Lutum-Lenger. Important topics are, for example, the fight for marriage for all and civil courage actions. The exhibition organizers also look back at love in history: Historical couples such as King Wilhelm II of Württemberg and the Russian Grand Duchess Catherine are presented. "We also look at the abysses, trials and tribulations of love," said exhibition director Rainer Schimpf. Pedophilia and patriotism in National Socialism are also the subject of the show.

In the first part of the trilogy, the House of History dealt with the phenomenon of greed until September 2021. The second part was dedicated to hate until July 24 of this year.
