Baden-Württemberg: Minister criticizes housing cost regulation for citizen benefit

For Labor Minister Hubertus Heil (SPD), the reform of Hartz IV is a key project. The chancellor recently assured once again that a citizen's allowance should come. There are some weaknesses for State Labor Minister Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut (CDU).

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The planned recognition of the actual living costs for two years in the future citizen benefit is rejected by the Baden-Württemberg Minister of Labor Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut (CDU). The CDU politician told the German Press Agency in Stuttgart that this time was clearly too long. "Because there is a risk that the prices on the local rental markets for new rentals will continue to rise if the job centers assume the actual costs for such a long period of time." Usurious and luxury rents could also be taken over. In addition, the financial burden on the urban and rural districts is not taken into account.

The introduction of citizen income is one of the most important socio-political projects of the traffic light coalition. Minister of Labor Hubertus Heil (SPD) wants less strict conditions for those who draw benefits than with the current Hartz IV. Assets of up to 60,000 euros should not be touched. The CDU politician said that this represents a departure from the previous system, according to which all of one's own resources must first be used to overcome the need for help. "A mechanism should be put in place to protect wealth based on lifetime achievement and past employment history."

According to Heil's draft bill, no cuts are planned for so-called breaches of duty within a six-month "period of trust". This applies, for example, if job offers are not accepted or applications are not written as agreed.

Hoffmeister-Kraut said that the incentives for qualifications and further training provided in the draft bill, such as a further training bonus, were correct. "An apprenticeship or further training is an important step on the way to work and for securing skilled workers in our economy." At the same time, the state labor minister welcomed the proposals to reduce bureaucracy. "A de minimis limit for reclaims of up to 50 euros is correct in order to relieve the job centers of unnecessary administrative tasks, so that there is more time for integration into work."
