Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - In Baden-Württemberg, more people died of Corona in 2021 than a year earlier. As the State Statistical Office announced on Wednesday, the number of deaths rose by 2,300 to around 8,100. This is also related to the fact that the first corona deaths were only recorded in March 2020. In the previous year, however, corona deaths were registered from January to December.

According to the information, the average age of people who died of Corona in the southwest was 79.1 years, a good three years lower than in 2020. The Corona deaths are no longer compared to people who died of other causes was above average age, it was said.

According to the State Statistical Office, around 119,000 people died in the southwest last year. That's 3,000 more than the year before. The most common causes of death include circulatory diseases with a share of 34 percent of all deaths and cancer (22 percent). The proportion of corona deaths in the southwest was seven percent.
