Baden-Württemberg: New attempt at Heidelberg mayor election: three candidates

Heidelberg (dpa / lsw) - In the second round of the Heidelberg mayor election, there are three candidates to vote: incumbent Eckart Würzner (independent), ex-Minister of Science Theresia Bauer (Greens) and Björn Leuzinger from the "party". The city announced this on Thursday after the meeting of the municipal election committee. Because none of the nine candidates had achieved an absolute majority last Sunday, a second round of voting on November 27 became necessary.

Würzner had brought in 45.9 percent of the votes. Bauer reached 28.6 percent. Leuzinger came up with 1.79 percent. SPD candidate Sören Michelsburg, who came third with 13.5 percent, withdrew his candidacy on Wednesday

Everything boils down to a duel between Würzner and Bauer. 107,000 eligible voters in the university town are called to vote. In the second ballot, a simple majority is enough for a win.
