Baden-Württemberg: "Open Monument Day" with castles and mills

Do you actually know what the inside of the castle looks like? Who used to live in the ruins or how a mill works? Such questions are traditionally answered in Baden-Württemberg on the "Day of the Open Monument".

Esslingen (dpa/lsw) - After the start on Saturday evening in Esslingen with guided tours and events, hundreds of ruins, mills, monasteries or simply the neighboring house, which is a listed building, will open their doors on Sunday. According to the organizers, around 500 monuments in Baden-Württemberg give the opportunity on "Open Monument Day" to spend a few hours behind otherwise often closed doors or to obtain information. Churches and castles, excavation sites and industrial buildings can also be visited nationwide. Monument conservators also use the forum to report and advertise on the problems and successes of their work.

This year the motto of the day is "Culture Spur. A case for monument protection". The main focus is on the traces that people have left behind over the centuries and through many layers of time. The German Foundation for Monument Protection (DSD) has coordinated the day nationwide since 1993 and always on the second Sunday in September.
