Baden-Württemberg: parents' taxis should stay at home: school routes in sight

Many school children are chauffeured to school in their parents' taxi in the morning. The state government wants to change that with a nationwide campaign.

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Children in Baden-Württemberg should come to school safely and independently - and not be driven to the playground by mom and dad. "We want parent taxis to be reduced," said a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Transport. The aim is to halve the proportion of children and young people who drive to school by 2030. In order to promote this, the ministries of education, transport and the interior are presenting a joint campaign on Wednesday (8:00 a.m.) in Stuttgart.

Various measures are intended to improve the infrastructure for bicycles and make school routes safer. For example, schools can receive funding for bike and scooter pools or sign up for a new web tool that can be used to plan routes to school.
