Bad Dürrheim (dpa / lsw) - There was a major fire in Bad Dürrheim (Schwarzwald-Baar-Kreis) by a hair's breadth because several children were re-enacting an Internet video. As the police announced on Thursday, three boys aged 12 and 13 wanted to explode a spray can with heat. They set fire to paper that they had previously wrapped around the can. According to the officials, the flames spread to a dry piece of meadow on Wednesday evening.
The children ran away. A truck driver and a pedestrian put out the fire with jackets and cans of water. "In this way they prevented worse, because the fire could not spread to an adjacent larger meadow area," informed the police. According to the investigators, the damage amounts to a burned area of about one square meter.
A police spokesman said neither the children nor the parents were being investigated: "Children are not subject to criminal law." However, a conversation was held with the parents of the boys. "The children were not aware of what the consequences could be," the spokesman continued.
