Baden-Württemberg: Southwest FDP welcomes Scholz's decision to use nuclear power plants

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The Baden-Württemberg FDP leader Michael Theurer has welcomed the decision by Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) to continue operating the third German nuclear power plant for a limited period of time. "The right decision for our country, because it ensures affordability and security of supply - by the way, also when it comes to rail," said the Liberal, who is also Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Transport, on Monday evening on Twitter. 10.7 percent of traction current in Germany currently comes from nuclear power.

For weeks, the FDP and the Greens, both nationally and nationally, had been arguing about whether and for how long the three nuclear power plants that were still running should be operated. It was already known that the Neckarwestheim II reactors in the Heilbronn district and Isar 2 in Bavaria could remain online until mid-April 2023 at the latest. Above all, it was about the Emsland power plant in Lower Saxony, which according to the original plans of Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) was not intended for so-called stretching operation. Scholz has now determined that the legal basis for this should be created for all nuclear power plants.
