Baden-Württemberg: State extends "Career" program for training

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The state wants to continue to support refugees in their search for an apprenticeship and is extending the so-called Kümmerer program. The Ministry of Economics announced on Tuesday that it will be continued in the next two years. A further 3.7 million euros would be made available for the integration of immigrants in training. The "Heilbronner Voice" and the "Südkurier" reported first. According to the information, 37.5 "caretaker" full-time positions will be funded. They are assigned to 22 chambers, districts and educational institutions.

Since 2016, the "Kümmerer" have been placing young people in internships, qualifications and training courses that are suitable for them. In doing so, they help "to secure the next generation of skilled workers and to integrate young immigrants into society," said Economics Minister Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut (CDU) according to the announcement. More than 3,400 participants in the program have already started training. By April 2022, around 7,500 immigrants had been accompanied by "carers".

According to the "Heilbronnerstimme" and the "Südkurier", training in retail sales has so far been given most frequently. This was followed by training, for example as a motor vehicle mechatronics technician, cook, machine and plant operator and warehouse clerk, the newspapers write, citing a ministry spokeswoman. Accordingly, 85 percent of the program participants come from the main asylum countries of origin, including Syria (37 percent), Afghanistan (16 percent) and Gambia (9 percent).
