Baden-Württemberg: State Nursing Council criticizes the country for plans for a nursing chamber

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The chairwoman of the state nursing council, Susanne Scheck, has criticized the lack of transparency on the part of the Ministry of Social Affairs in the planned restart for a nursing chamber. She doesn't understand why Minister of Social Affairs Manne Lucha (Greens) is "so anxious" about this topic, she told the "Stuttgarter Zeitung" and the "Stuttgarter Nachrichten" (Monday). "The only way I can explain it is that all the political players are a bit traumatized after the great resistance at the previous attempt."

With the help of a nursing chamber, employees in nursing are to design their own job profile and thus be involved in the further development of the job profile, for example. Due to resistance to the establishment of such a chamber, this project was postponed to this legislative period in 2020. The cabinet wants to discuss the draft law at the end of September, the newspapers report.

Scheck criticized, among other things, what she saw as the tight schedule: According to the plans, the founding committee for the chamber should probably start its work in June 2023. From then on, there are 18 months to write to and register nurses. That's a very short time to actively promote registration, Scheck said.

From their point of view, a nursing chamber is elementary. "We are the largest professional group in the healthcare system, but we have the least say because we don't have a lobby." If the chamber doesn't succeed in enforcing it, the issue will be dead for a long time.
