Baden-Württemberg: State wants to abolish the obligation to wear masks in facilities

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The state of Baden-Württemberg does not want to accept the currently applicable mask requirement for residents of nursing homes and facilities for the disabled. A corresponding application was submitted to the next conference of health ministers. The draft decision should be discussed next Monday at the digital conference, said a spokesman for the Ministry of Social Affairs on Monday. Accordingly, the mask requirement for people with disabilities who work in workshops should also be dropped.

Minister Manne Lucha (Greens) has been speaking out against the regulation since the federal Infection Protection Act came into force on October 1st. As a result, the mask must be worn by residents in the common areas and can only be removed in the personal rooms. According to Lucha, this cannot be reconciled with the right to self-determination and social participation. Institutions and their sponsors had also protested against this.

According to the draft, which is available to the dpa, the regulation on the obligation to test for employees in "hospitals, rehabilitation facilities and partially and fully inpatient care facilities" should also be changed. Since October 1st, they have had to be tested at least three times a week - under supervision or at test centers. The employees working at the stress limit cannot be expected to do that. They are also in a very good position and sufficiently qualified to test themselves.
