Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - After his arrest in Barcelona, the suspected mastermind behind a gang of fences from the Freiburg area was brought to Germany. He is in custody, said a spokesman for the State Criminal Police Office on Tuesday. The 32-year-old suspect was arrested by Spanish investigators in August and has now been brought to Germany by investigators from the Baden-Württemberg State Criminal Police Office. He went into hiding in autumn 2020. Since then there has been an intensive search for him.
The suspect is said to have brought stolen and misappropriated cars to Germany with a group of accomplices from Freiburg and the area around Naples and Milan in Italy, re-registered them and resold them with original German papers. There was damage of at least 1.2 million euros. The criminal police have been investigating the gang since 2020. In May 2022, the Freiburg Regional Court sentenced four people to prison terms.
