Baden-Württemberg: Suspected "Reich citizen": federal prosecutor determined

Karlsruhe (dpa/lsw) - In the case of an alleged "Reich citizen" who is said to have intentionally hit a police officer in Efringen-Kirchen (Lörrach district), the federal prosecutor's office has taken over the investigation. More details could not be given at the moment, said a spokeswoman for the highest German prosecutor on Saturday. The case had already been taken over on June 14th. The "Badische Zeitung" reported first.

The man was noticed by patrol officers in early February because of his strange driving style. When she wanted to control the obviously drunk man, he fled. Finally, several police cars managed to stop the car. When an officer got out and approached the man, he is said to have accelerated and hit the patrolman head-on. The officer was seriously injured. The police then fired several times. The suspect was injured in the arm.

The man is said to belong to the "Reichsbürger" scene. According to the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, there are around 3,300 people in this scene in Baden-Württemberg. "Reichsbürger" and "Selbstverwalter" deny the existence of the Federal Republic of Germany and its legal system, deny politicians and civil servants their legitimacy and repeatedly break the law.
