Baden-Württemberg: Toxic carbon monoxide in residential building: Eight injured

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - After the escape of toxic carbon monoxide in an apartment building, eight people were injured in Stuttgart. As the fire brigade announced on Monday, a resident of the house had called the emergency services on Sunday evening due to discomfort. When entering the building, the emergency services then found a greatly increased concentration of carbon monoxide.

According to the fire brigade, eight people were rescued from the building. Six people were taken to nearby hospitals, two people stayed on site against medical advice.

The life-threatening carbon monoxide concentration was probably triggered by a gas boiler, it was said. According to the fire brigade, the values were significantly reduced by airing and checking the gas boiler.

Carbon monoxide is a colorless and odorless gas. It arises from the incomplete combustion of combustibles and fuels. Poisoning can lead to asphyxiation because the gas impedes oxygen uptake.
