Baden-Württemberg: traffic jams, construction sites, animals: traffic warnings are increasing

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The number of traffic obstructions in Baden-Württemberg, for example due to traffic jams, construction sites or wrong-way drivers, has increased in the past year. This was announced by the Ministry of the Interior on Saturday. According to this, the state registration office for the traffic warning service issued around 53,500 traffic and hazard reports last year - over 2000 more than in the previous year.

By far the most incidents - around 34,400 - occurred on motorways, according to the information. The longest traffic jam in 2022 affected the A6 between Crailsheim and Öhringen and was around 50 kilometers long: After a truck loaded with fresh meat fell over, the road had to remain closed for hours. The number of wrong-way drivers also increased by around 40 to 397 cases. More cyclists were also cycling illegally on motorways and motor roads.

According to the information, escaped animals or objects that landed on the road caused special police operations and warnings: For example, llamas, camels, zebras and families of geese or ducks had to be caught or taken off the road. There were also warnings about beehives that had fallen on the road, a shopping trolley and a whirlpool. Such incidents were somewhat less frequent in 2022 than in the previous year.
