Baden-Württemberg: Ukraine war and inflation: panels experience rush

Oberndorf (dpa / lsw) - The 147 panels in the southwest are experiencing a rush in view of the Russia-Ukraine war and inflation. As board member Udo Engelhardt told the daily newspaper "Schwarzwälder Bote" (Monday), the number of people entitled to make purchases at the Tafel increased by around 50 percent to around 225,000 people.

When asked about admission stops at the individual food supply banks, Engelhardt told the newspaper: "We are in contact with all the banks in Baden-Württemberg. The situation is different in each case: in larger cities such as Stuttgart or Konstanz it is different than in Schramberg or Hornberg im Black Forest, for example." Admission stops are therefore imposed if many customers come at the same time and numerous customer cards are requested.

Engelhardt appealed to politicians to provide more support to those entitled. "At the local level, there must be low-threshold contact points for advice and additional hardship funds to which the food banks can also refer those seeking help." The panels could not be the last stop of the offers of help.
