Bavaria: 750-ton bridge pushed over the highway

Bergrheinfeld (dpa / lby) - On the night of Sunday, a railway bridge weighing around 750 tons was pushed over the Autobahn 70 near Bergrheinfeld (Schweinfurt district). The steel construction was initially set up next to the motorway, and now it was moved with millimeter work lasting several hours. Contrary to what was originally planned, the work dragged on into the morning and, according to Bahn, was finished around 9:30 a.m. The freeway was closed during the action.

According to Bahn, the tied arch bridge is more than 62 meters long and a good 12 meters wide and high. Its construction costs around 16 million euros. It replaces an old bridge on the route between Schweinfurt and Waigolshausen. Their demolition had dragged on longer than planned and thus led to the delays.

For the installation of the new bridge section, a special vehicle consisting of four individual cars was used, which moves half a kilometer per hour, as well as lifting platforms, telehandlers and truck-mounted cranes. Trains are scheduled to cross the bridge again on December 9th.
