Schwandorf (dpa / lby) - In heavy rain, an 81-year-old was driving the wrong way on Autobahn 93. Due to carelessness and because of the heavy showers, she drove onto the Autobahn in the opposite direction to the direction of traffic at the Schwandorf-Mitte junction late on Saturday evening, the police said on Sunday.
Several drivers who met the wrong-way driver made an emergency call to the police. Numerous police patrols then went onto the motorway and stopped the traffic in the meantime, it was said.
Finally, the wrong-way driver was found at the Schwandorf-Süd junction. In the meantime she had noticed her mistake and turned around in the area of a construction site. The woman now expects a display, a "sensitive" fine and a driving ban. In addition, she must expect that the driver's license office will check her general fitness to drive, it said.
