Bavaria: A9 shortly before Munich: Busiest road in Bavaria

Munich (dpa/lby) - Most of the vehicles in Bavaria are on the Autobahn 9 between the Garching Süd junction and the München Nord Autobahnkreuz - 134,264 per day. This is shown by the results of the 2021 road traffic census, which the Bavarian Ministry of Transport presented on Monday in Munich. For this purpose, measurements were taken at around 9,500 locations throughout Bavaria last year.

According to the ministry, the data shows that the volume of traffic, which was reduced during the pandemic, has increased significantly again, but has not yet reached the level before the pandemic. However, this is not a Bavarian but a Germany-wide phenomenon. "It is still unclear whether these changes will be permanent or whether they will still adapt to the normal situation," said Transport Minister Christian Bernreiter (CSU).

The road traffic census takes place every five years throughout Germany. The collected data is also an important basis for the planning of the federal and state governments. Since the 2020 count was suspended due to the pandemic, it was made up for last year.
