Munich (dpa / lby) - Because of the risk of a collapse in the power supply in the Free State, the municipalities are preparing emergency concepts to supply the population. "In the event of a prolonged power blackout, it is primarily important that the population has a contact point close to where they live, for example to ensure communication in the event of a crisis," explains Michael Siefener from the Ministry of the Interior in Munich.
The basis for such a crisis scenario is a planning aid that was developed several years ago by the district fire brigade association and the district government in the Upper Palatinate. "Numerous municipalities have already made or are currently making appropriate preparations," says Siefener.
As a survey by the German Press Agency showed, some cities have already worked out concrete concepts, while working groups are still active in other town halls. An essential part of the pension papers is often the establishment of so-called lighthouses at central points in the various districts.
The city of Nuremberg, for example, wants to turn the fire brigade equipment houses into "lighthouses". There, citizens can then obtain information, make emergency calls, charge urgently needed technology such as ventilators or warm up in the cold, the authorities explain.
In the event of a disaster, the fire brigades should ensure a minimum supply of energy with emergency power generators. So that the emergency services can communicate in the event of a failure of the normal networks, the authorities are currently also purchasing satellite telephones. However, the cities emphasize that the risk of a "blackout" is still considered low.
