Bavaria: Bavarian imports grow faster than exports

Fürth (dpa / lby) - The gap between Bavarian imports and exports continues to widen. As the State Office for Statistics announced on Wednesday, the economy in the Free State imported goods for 162.2 billion euros in the first eight months of the year, but exported only 137.7 billion euros. This means that companies spent EUR 24.5 billion more on purchases abroad than they earned with their exports. For the whole of 2021, the deficit was only 22 billion euros.

The extreme rise in energy prices has accelerated development. But since 2019, the value of imports has exceeded the value of exports.

In August, the imports of the Bavarian economy increased by 28 percent to over 20 billion euros, exports rose by 24 percent to 17.5 billion euros. The highest import values were recorded for machinery, oil and gas, power generation and distribution equipment, electronic components, and chassis, engines and other automotive components. The main countries of origin were China, Austria, the Czech Republic, the USA and Italy. The most important export countries for the Bavarian economy were the USA, Austria, China, France and Italy. The most important export goods were machines and cars.
