Bavaria: Chamber of Industry and Commerce wants longer nuclear power plant terms

Berlin/Munich (dpa/lby) - The extension of the nuclear power plant runtimes until mid-April 2023 does not go far enough for the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) Munich and Upper Bavaria. "That fell short," said Managing Director Manfred Gößl. "The extension of the terms until mid-April 2023 is clearly not enough to ensure long-term grid security in view of the extremely tense supply situation." The term must be extended at least until the end of 2024.

Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck (Greens) had previously announced that two of the three remaining nuclear power plants in Germany should serve as emergency reserves until mid-April 2023. The Isar 2 power plants in Lower Bavaria and Neckarwestheim in Baden-Württemberg should - if necessary - be able to make an additional contribution to the power grid in southern Germany in the winter of 2022/23, said Habeck in Berlin.
