Bavaria: Expert: researching celestial phenomena with state aid

Reports about unidentified phenomena in the sky have been collected worldwide for years - but not in Germany, at least not officially.

Würzburg (dpa / lby) - When researching unknown celestial phenomena, the Würzburg space scientist Hakan Kayal would like to see increased cooperation with state authorities. "That means there must be a political will that takes the topic seriously, appreciates it and supports us in research," he said in an interview with the German Press Agency. Abroad, one is more advanced in this respect, information about the sightings of unknown flying objects (UFOs) is collected and examined in France and the USA, for example.

"The so-called All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office was founded in the USA this summer." This new authority should bundle reports from pilots about unidentified sky phenomena (Unidentified Aerial Phenomena/UAP).

"To make it easier for them to be captured and shared without fear of your career suffering," Kayal said. "It's very, very important and a paradigm shift. It's an official authority, not a secret project." This contributes to the fact that dealing with the subject of UFOs is not further ridiculed.

The US government announced in June 2021 that it had no explanations for around 140 celestial phenomena from the past two decades. The report by the "Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force", which was produced at the Ministry of Defense in cooperation with secret services, had been eagerly awaited. According to Kayal, the observations are now to be officially examined as part of a NASA study. France, too, has a government agency that deals with UFOs and UAPs, based at the space agency.

"In Germany, however, there is no authority in this direction and no body that feels responsible for UAPs." It is urgently necessary to research and coordinate these topics on an interdisciplinary basis. Kayal would like cross-departmental support from politics.

"The sky is observed because of civil aviation and also because of military aviation," said the scientist. 'Some of what could contribute to UAP research can be collected by government agencies. For scientific UAP research we need data, that's the most important thing.'
