Bavaria: FDP for abolition of most government officials

Munich (dpa / lby) - The FDP in the Bavarian state parliament is demanding the abolition of most positions for state government representatives. In particular, the posts newly installed by Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) after the 2018 state elections should be dissolved again, the Liberals announced on Wednesday in Munich. There are a total of eight State Government Commissioners in the Free State. For example, the integration commissioner and the commissioner for the disabled should be retained.

The FDP justifies its demand with constitutional concerns, but also with a lack of financial clarity. The state government accuses the party of concealing the actual costs of the commissioners and only publishing them on request.

Finance Minister Albert Füracker (CSU) said at the request of the FDP that the personnel costs for the employees of the commissioners in particular have increased in recent years. For example, if the representative for reducing bureaucracy caused personnel costs of 364,000 euros in 2020, these grew to 575,000 euros last year. The officer himself receives 108,000 euros a year. "In fact, the establishment of this position will cost the taxpayer 683,000 euros," said the budgetary spokesman for the FDP parliamentary group, Helmut Kaltenhauser.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the rising costs are mainly due to more employees from the commissioners, more working hours and increased tariffs in recent years.

The eight posts are the ombudsman, the officer for reducing bureaucracy, the integration officer, the officer for voluntary work, the officer for the interests of people with disabilities, the patient and nursing officer, the officer for resettlers and displaced persons and the officer for Jewish life and against anti-Semitism.
