Bavaria: Hospital costs increased by five percent

Fürth (dpa/lby) - The costs of Bavarian hospitals rose by 4.9 percent to 19.75 billion euros last year. By far the largest share (around 62 percent) went back to personnel costs at 12.31 billion euros, as the State Statistical Office announced on Wednesday in Fürth. In addition to the salaries of the doctors and the nursing and administrative staff, material costs made up 36.5 percent of the expenses. The total costs also include expenses for non-inpatient services such as outpatient clinics or scientific research and teaching.

The costs of purely inpatient hospital care amounted to 17 billion euros in 2021, an increase of 4.6 percent. Thus, each inpatient treatment case cost an average of 6710 euros, per occupancy day it was 917 euros. In 2021, the statisticians counted 2.53 million inpatient treatments in Bavaria's hospitals.
