Bavaria: Incidence in Bavaria falls slightly: possible holiday effect

Munich (dpa / lby) - The corona incidence in Bavaria has fallen slightly. On Wednesday morning, the Robert Koch Institute reported a value of 1081.6. That is the second highest reading in Germany and down from 15.2 from the previous day. On a weekly basis, however, it is a significant increase of almost 450.

The highest incidences in the Free State are currently found in the districts of Tirschenreuth with 1610.7, Landsberg am Lech with 1548.6, Ebersberg with 1507.3 and the city of Munich with 1481.3.

However, the small decline in the Bavarian-wide incidence may only be due to the effect of the holiday in the previous week. Reports were postponed due to the free Monday, so that a particularly large number of cases were not counted for the incidence reported on Wednesday morning.

The official incidence now only provides a very incomplete picture of the number of infections. Experts assume a high number of cases not recorded by the RKI - mainly because not all infected people have a PCR test done. Only positive PCR tests count in the statistics. In addition, weekends and public holidays can lead to shifts and distortions in the statistics. In Munich, for example, the health department recently assumed that there were at least four times as many infections as are recorded in the official statistics.
