Bavaria: Munich Airport: 40,000 flights during the holidays: come early

Munich (dpa / lby) - Munich Airport is expecting around 40,000 flights during the summer holidays and is appealing to all passengers to arrive early. Although Lufthansa and other airlines have reduced their flight offerings, up to 900 take-offs and landings a day are expected between the start of the holiday on July 29 and the end of the holiday on September 12. The passengers should "plan a time buffer and be in the terminal about two and a half hours before departure," said the airport company FMG on Wednesday.

Air traffic at the second largest German airport suffers from a lack of staff, as elsewhere, resulting in numerous complaints about delays, last-minute rebookings and left luggage. "At the start of the holidays, additional staff deployed in the terminals will provide passengers with assistance on all questions relating to the handling process," the statement said.

During the holidays, things will probably be as lively at Munich Airport as they have been since the beginning of the corona pandemic. A year ago, according to FMG, there were only half as many take-offs and landings during the holiday season. However, the airport is still a long way from the peak activity of the past: in the last year before the pandemic, there were 417,000 take-offs and landings in Munich, an average of more than 1,140 per day.
