Nuremberg (dpa / lby) - As of today, the Nuremberg city council wants to deal with the draft budget for 2023 and savings proposals for the coming years. The heavily indebted city wants to save 50 million euros annually by 2026. Three days are set aside for budget deliberations.
The district government of Middle Franconia, as the municipal supervisory authority, only approved the budget of Bavaria's second largest city in February under strict conditions and obliged them to save. Currently, increasing personnel and energy costs as well as social security expenses are a particular burden on Nuremberg's city budget. At the same time, income from trade tax interest and federal and state subsidies are falling.
The city treasurer is therefore planning, among other things, to cut 500 full-time positions in the city administration, not to fill vacant positions temporarily, to reduce major events and to close some cultural offerings.
