Bavaria: Pleas expected in the process of the ICE knife attack

On an ICE journey more than a year ago, a man suddenly attacked several passengers with a knife. In the trial against the alleged perpetrator, there are now likely to be pleas – the verdict is to follow a week later.

Munich (dpa/lby) - In the process of the bloody knife attack on travelers in an ICE more than a year ago, pleas are expected on Thursday (9:00 a.m.) before the Munich Higher Regional Court. The trial against the alleged perpetrator began around two months ago. A verdict is expected by the end of next week.

The indictment accuses the 27-year-old at the time of the crime of attempted murder and dangerous bodily harm, among other things. On November 6, 2021, he is said to have suddenly attacked four men with a knife in an ICE on the way to Nuremberg and seriously injured three of them. Since the beginning of the trial, the focus has been on whether the alleged perpetrator is a jihadist and how his mental state is to be assessed at the time of the crime.

During the course of the hearing, the victims, witnesses and various experts were heard. At the beginning of the proceedings, the court had scheduled 24 days of hearings until December 23 - the verdict will probably also be announced on this day. The pleadings are expected to continue on Friday.
