Bavaria: Porcupine offspring in Hellabrunn

Munich (dpa / lby) - For the first time in 30 years: The Munich Tierpark Hellabrunn is happy about the offspring of the white-tailed porcupines. "The male is healthy, strong and surprisingly prickly," the zoo wrote in a statement on Friday. The little porcupine doesn't have a name yet.

The cub was born in July. It was not until Friday, four months later, that nurses examined it. The animals are very sensitive on the stomach in the first few months. "We waited so that the young animal would not be injured during the examination," said a spokeswoman. "We also wanted to stress the parents as little as possible." White-tailed porcupines are not considered endangered.
