Bavaria: Positive balance for 9-euro ticket in Munich

Munich (dpa / lby) - In Munich, more than 3.7 million people used the 9-euro ticket. Around 3.3 million passengers bought it at machines, sales outlets and over the Internet, for 470,000 subscription customers the tickets were automatically valid as a 9-euro ticket, the Munich Transport and Tariff Association (MVV) announced on Wednesday. In addition, there were passengers who were traveling with their 9-euro ticket from other regions in the state capital with around 1.6 million inhabitants.

This had an impact on the number of passengers in Germany's third largest city: around ten percent more passengers were traveling on the Munich subways, buses and trams than in May 2022, according to the MVV, which therefore drew a positive balance of the cheap tickets .

There has also been growth in the MVV regional bus service in the districts and on the Munich S-Bahn. In June 2022, passenger numbers in the MVV network area almost reached the pre-corona level again.

"Offers like the 9-euro ticket are a great way to get passengers onto local public transport - but only a good offer, the most complete connection possible to all areas and a modern infrastructure can be convincing in the long term," emphasized MVV Managing Director Bernd Rosenbusch . This requires secure and sustainable financing.
