Bavaria: Renewed Verdi warning strikes from Monday

So far, no agreement is in sight in this year's collective bargaining round for the public sector. The third round of negotiations is scheduled for the end of the month. Until then, citizens, municipalities and the federal government must prepare for warning strikes.

Munich (dpa / lby) - The Verdi union is continuing its wave of warning strikes in the public sector this week. Among other things, the staff of hospitals and public utilities are called upon, as well as some street cleaning or garbage disposal. Work stoppages in Amberg, Augsburg and Nuremberg are to start this Monday, as the union announced on Friday. Further warning strikes in Munich, the three Franconian administrative districts, the Upper Palatinate and the Allgäu are to follow in the course of the week.

On International Women's Day on March 8th, the predominantly female staff in childcare centers and social institutions are also called upon to walk out.

In the collective bargaining round, Verdi and the public employers are negotiating the salaries of a good 2.5 million state and federal employees. The union is demanding wage increases of 10.5 percent, but at least 500 euros more. This should compensate for the rapid inflation of the past two years. The municipal employers' associations and the Federal Ministry of the Interior negotiate on the employers' side. They reject the Verdi demand as too high.
