Bavaria: Riot police water trees in Nuremberg

Nuremberg (dpa/lby) - In action for Nuremberg's flora: The Bavarian riot police are using a water cannon vehicle to support the city of Nuremberg in watering the trees. The strong sunshine and the persistent drought posed major challenges for the city, said Mayor Christian Vogel, "so the additional watering is particularly welcome."

The riot police will be on the road with their water cannon vehicle with a capacity of 10,000 liters for four days, the press office announced on Monday. It is usually used at demonstrations or football matches, but also in emergencies such as forest fires. The water for the trees is tapped at hydrants, said a spokeswoman for the public space service company in Nuremberg (Sör) on Monday. Sör currently supplies around 9,500 trees with around 18 million liters of water a year. Most recently, pool water from the closed indoor pools in Nuremberg was also poured.
