Bavaria: Sahara dust and snow: weather mix in Bavaria

Munich (dpa / lby) - People in Bavaria can expect a reddish morning sky on Thursday morning. Sahara dust is said to color the sky yellowish-red in many areas, as a meteorologist from the German Weather Service (DWD) said on Wednesday. However, the highest concentration of dust particles in Bavaria will occur on Thursday night and thus in the dark, so that this time the weather phenomenon is likely to be a little less spectacular.

The Sahara dust is followed by a temperature drop towards the weekend, which is triggered by a low pressure area. Cold air masses will be pushed to the south of Germany as early as Friday. It should only get up to three degrees warm during the day, at night the temperatures drop locally to below 0 degrees again.

According to the previous weather model, the DWD expects a lot of snow in Upper Bavaria and in the Alpine valleys. "Up to 20 centimeters of fresh snow are sometimes possible from today's perspective, which also remains," said the meteorologist. Even lower altitudes are affected.
