Méribel (dpa / lby) - Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) congratulated ski racer Alexander Schmid on his gold medal at the Alpine World Championships in France. "Congratulations to Alexander Schmid from Oberstdorf in the Allgäu!" Wrote Söder on Twitter on Wednesday. "Finally, after a very long time, a gold medal for the German team at an Alpine World Ski Championships. Great performance!" The 56-year-old also linked the German Ski Association (DSV).

Schmid had previously won the parallel competition in Méribel, France. He won the first individual gold medal for the German men at an Alpine World Ski Championships since Hansjörg Tauscher's triumph in the Vail downhill in 1989.
