Starnberg (dpa / lby) - The bird flu virus has been detected in two dead wild geese in the Starnberg district. According to experts from the Friedrich-Löffler-Institute (FLI), the animals found near Gauting-Stockdorf carried the HPAIV virus of subtype H5N1, the district office announced on Wednesday. According to the current risk assessment, there will be no general stall requirement for poultry in the Starnberg district for the time being. However, the Starnberg district office asked citizens to report dead waterfowl and birds of prey to the veterinary office.
An infection of humans with the predominantly circulating avian influenza virus of the subtype H5N1 is not known in Germany. According to the European Center for Disease Control, this virus is poorly adapted to humans and transmission from birds to humans is therefore rare.
Nevertheless, the district office advised not to touch dead birds and also to avoid contact of pets with the carcass.
