Nuremberg (dpa / lby) - 1. FC Nuremberg is loaning Florian Flick from Bundesliga club Schalke 04. As the traditional Franconian club from the 2nd division announced on Thursday, the 22-year-old midfielder will sign until the end of the season "subject to the medical examination". "We're getting an ambitious defensive specialist who can be used in the midfielder or in the double six, as well as in the central defender position," said Nuremberg's sporting director Olaf Rebbe.
Flick played at Waldhof Mannheim in his youth before moving to Gelsenkirchen in 2020. The U21 national player signed his professional contract with Schalke last summer. There he made eight appearances in the first half of the Bundesliga season.
"Of course it is my goal to be on the pitch as often as possible at FCN in the second half of the season. In order to achieve that, I will step on the gas in preparation," said Flick. In Nuremberg he received jersey number 21.
