Nuremberg (dpa/lby) - The Nuremberg Ice Tigers from the German Ice Hockey League have reacted to the long-term absence of the injured attacker Ryan Stoa and signed the experienced center forward Rick Schofield. The 35-year-old Canadian last played for Villacher SV in the international ICE Hockey League and, according to a statement on Tuesday, will receive a contract with Franconia until the end of the current DEL season.

"Rick Schofield is a player who has ample experience in Europe. As a skilled centre-forward he will be able to bridge the gap created by Ryan Stoa's injury. His strengths lie on offense, where he can use his great game intelligence creates opportunities for himself and his team-mates," said sporting director Stefan Ustorf. Schofield could play for Nuremberg for the first time this Wednesday against ERC Ingolstadt.

Stoa suffered a severe lower body injury in training last Friday. According to the club, the 35-year-old American will be out for around three months.
