Bayern: FC Augsburg have committed Maier from Hertha BSC

Augsburg (dpa / lby) - FC Augsburg has signed midfielder Arne Maier from Bundesliga competitor Hertha BSC on a long-term basis. The 23-year-old, previously only on loan from the Berliners, signed a three-year contract until the summer of 2025. As the Bundesliga club from Fuggerstadt announced on Tuesday, the agreement includes an option for another season. It was agreed not to disclose the terms of the transfer.

Maier moved from Hertha BSC to Augsburg last summer, and in return the Berlin offensive player Marco Richter signed. The captain of the German U21 national team, which became European champions in 2021, played 29 Bundesliga games for Augsburg last season. Maier was FCA's best assist with seven assists, and he also scored his first goal in the first division.

"Despite an unusual preparation with the U21 European Championship and the Olympic football tournament, Arne Maier became a permanent fixture in our team right away and has developed into an absolute top performer at headquarters," explained Managing Director Stefan Reuter.

"A lot of trust is placed in me here at FCA and I felt very comfortable right from the start," said Maier.
