The eagerly awaited Netflix docuseries about Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan is apparently a long time coming: As "Deadline" reports, the streaming service has decided not to publish the format in December of this year, but only in 2023. The reason for this is said to be the current criticism of the fifth season of "The Crown". "Those responsible at Netflix are concerned and have decided to postpone the documentary," a source told the US industry magazine.
The fifth season "The Crown" can be seen on Netflix from November 9th. The series focuses on the British royal family and has been criticized several times for not making it clear that it is a fictional format. Season five is about the 1990s in the British royal family, ending with the accidental deaths of Princess Diana and her boyfriend Dodi Al-Fayed on August 31, 1997.
The episodes are set to explore some of the most intimate aspects of the princess's fractured marriage to new King Charles III. show and could possibly harm the reputation of the monarch. Most recently, former Prime Minister John Major, who is played by Jonny Lee Miller in the series, criticized the allegedly negative portrayal of Charles in the fifth season.
Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan have been working on their documentary series for a long time, which is intended to give private insights into their lives after retiring as high-ranking royals. An official start date and further details were not yet known. The US celebrity page "Page Six" of the "New York Post" reported in July that the series should appear on the streaming service later this year. After the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September, according to "Deadline", the couple could now reconsider and possibly change the content of the documentary by postponing the start date.
