Best friends since the 80s: Drew Barrymore swarms with Cameron Diaz

The actresses Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz are best friends, as the former now tells in an interview. She raves about the close connection to Diaz, who is about to celebrate a milestone birthday.

Hollywood star Drew Barrymore sees a "soul mate" in her colleague Cameron Diaz. "She is my mirror, my better self. I have never felt such a connection to a person before," said Barrymore (47) of "Bild am Sonntag" on the occasion of Diaz's 50th birthday on Tuesday. "It is a gift to have this woman in my life."

The two actresses made the "Charlie's Angels" films together. The friendship between the two apparently knows no bounds. "Cameron has my house key, she waters my flowers when I need to go away. She's babysitter and lifesaver to me. Cam was there when I was down, held my hand in my worst moments, held my hand in my best moments we celebrated together," Barrymore said.

They met each other in the 80s. "I was 14 and working in a coffee shop, she was 16 and had started modelling. She walked into the store and we became friends." As mothers, they would have the same problems. "These are evening-length topics." But both also like to travel. "We've been to Hawaii, the Hamptons, South America and the Caribbean together. We even sleep in the same bed," Barrymore said.

Barrymore said Diaz has helped her act more sustainably. "I don't use plastic bags anymore for Cameron. And I don't leave the water running when I brush my teeth."
