Calendar When is Palm Sunday 2023

Palm Sunday is an important date for the Christian community.

It is the day that each year brings the end of Lent closer and also defines the celebration of Holy Week.

Lent began with Ash Wednesday, on February 22, 2023, and ends on Holy Thursday. There are 40 days between the two dates, not counting Sunday days.

The entry of Jesus into Jerusalem is celebrated where he was received with great joy by the people. Since the 4th century, the procession of Palm Sunday or Sunday of the Lord's Passion has taken place in which the faithful carry palm or olive branches in their hands. It thus recalls the paschal victory of Jesus.

It is usually a tradition that the bouquets are blessed in churches and the faithful keep them in their homes.

Palm Sunday takes place just 7 days before the start of Easter. Its celebration, unlike December 25, varies in the calendar because the death of Christ took place near the Jewish Passover.

In 2023, Palm Sunday 2023 is celebrated on April 2, while Easter will be on Sunday 9 of the same month.

The Jewish Passover is celebrated with the first full moon of spring and represents the date on which the Jewish people were freed from slavery in Egypt. This is shown in the Gospels during the biblical passage of the Last Supper when Jesus gathered his disciples.

Easter is made up of the following festivities: Holy Thursday, with the establishment of the Eucharist, the Stations of the Cross on Good Friday, with the Passion of Christ; the Vigil of Glory Saturday and Easter Sunday of Resurrection.
