Street artist Banksy unveiled a work that appears to highlight the theme of domestic abuse on Tuesday, Valentine's Day, painted on the wall of a building in the south-east resort town of Margate from England.
It shows a housewife with a look from the 1950s or 1960s, disfigured by a black eye and a broken tooth, while the legs of a man protrude from an old, very real freezer, leaning against the wall. .
The work, titled "Valentine's day mascara", was claimed by the artist on his Instagram account on February 14, a day considered in many countries as the feast of lovers.
Several Internet users have identified the place where the work was made in the small coastal town of Margate in Kent, where AFP noted its presence.
Three years ago, the mysterious artist from Bristol and who works under a pseudonym, had already painted a work for Valentine's Day: a little girl shooting with a catapult at a bouquet of red flowers.
Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Banksy, whose works regularly beat auction records, has supported the Ukrainians. In January, he put up for sale 50 serigraphs intended to raise funds for the benefit of civilians.
And he had posted in mid-November on his Instagram account a video compiling his stenciled works in the country, including that representing an individual wearing a gas mask in Gostomel, thus confirming to be the author.
