Premiere in the executive chair: Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck (Greens) chaired a cabinet meeting for the first time – because Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) is on vacation. Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection Habeck sat on Scholz's chair on Wednesday, with the cabinet bell in front of him. Many ministers were not present - and of all things, Habeck's party colleague, Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (Greens), came too late.

Habeck and Baerbock used to be together at the top of the Greens. In the federal election, Baerbock was the Greens' candidate for chancellor, and in the next election it could be Habeck. According to a survey by the opinion research institute Forsa on behalf of RTL, Habeck would do better than incumbent Scholz in a direct election of the Federal Chancellor.

In a current Insa survey for the "Bild" newspaper, Habeck was voted Germany's most popular politician. Baerbock ended up in second place, followed by Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU). Olaf Scholz came in 6th place. For the opinion trend, Insa from 22. by July 25, a total of 2043 citizens representative.
