Hesse: According to the chairman, the Hanau Committee is on schedule

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - According to the assessment of the chairman Marius Weiß (SPD), the state parliament investigation committee for the racially motivated attack in Hanau will be completed in the current legislative period. "It looks good for our goal of finishing," he told the German Press Agency in Wiesbaden. The hearing of the last witnesses is planned for the end of May next year - including Hesse's Interior Minister Peter Beuth (CDU). After that, further appointments are scheduled, which could already be about the evaluation.

The upcoming committee meetings this year will deal with, among other things, the availability of the Hanau emergency number, cooperation between the security authorities, dealing with relatives and the police's operational tactics. On Monday (October 24th), Hanau's Lord Mayor Claus Kaminsky (SPD) is to be questioned about the emergency exit at one of the crime scenes. The door was believed to have been locked on the evening of the crime. Survivors and the bereaved had raised allegations against the authorities because a possible escape route was closed.

A 43-year-old German shot nine people with racist motives in Hanau on February 19, 2020. Then he killed his mother and himself. The investigative committee should clarify whether there were any errors by the authorities around the crime.
