Hesse: City approves abseiling action on the Autobahn near Frankfurt

Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) - Abseiling actions by climate activists are controversial, but the city of Frankfurt has now allowed such an action. According to their own statements, activists of the climate alliance "Forest instead of asphalt" want to abseil down the bridge in Westerbachstraße over the A648 this Saturday from 1 p.m. to protest against the planned expansion of motorways in Germany. A section of the A648 will be officially closed for this.

The state chairman of the police union (GdP) in Hesse, Jens Mohrherr, criticized the fact that citizens could get stuck in traffic due to the necessary partial closure and, in the worst case, be exposed to special dangers. According to the police, a driver was seriously injured in a rear-end collision on the A3 in 2020 at the end of a traffic jam after abseiling. The GdP cannot understand that the abseiling action in this case is done with official approval, said Mohrherr.
