Hesse: dromedary foal born in the Opel Zoo

Kronberg (dpa / lhe) - The Opel Zoo is happy about the offspring of the dromedaries. The female was born in mid-February and is named "Olivia," a zoo spokeswoman said on Thursday. The foal was the first female offspring of the dromedaries in the Kronberg outdoor enclosure for a long time. Just one week after its birth, the young animal can be seen with its mother "Ophelia" in the forecourt of the camel stable. Soon it will make its first contacts with the rest of the herd. However, the foal still spends its time sleeping to gather fresh strength.

Dromedaries are camels without a hump. Their two-humped relatives are the camels, which are also counted among the camels, as the spokeswoman explained. The wild form of the dromedary was originally native to the Arabian Peninsula and parts of North Africa and has probably been extinct for 2000 years.
