Hesse: Frankfurt carnival parade returns after Corona break

Frankfurt / Main (dpa / lhe) - After a two-year Corona break, the Frankfurt carnival parade will take place again this Sunday. 195 train numbers have been registered, as the organizers announced in Frankfurt on Tuesday. A total of between 320,000 and 340,000 spectators are expected.

On Shrove Sunday, the fools parade from 12.21 p.m. to around 4.45 p.m. on a four kilometer route through the city centre. The Great Council of Carnival Associations in Frankfurt is confident about the big event. According to Council President Axel Heilmann, citizens finally want to celebrate again, "despite the problems in the world".

The carnival parade poses a logistical challenge for those responsible. Through close cooperation with the police and rescue services, the organizers want to guarantee that the parade will run smoothly even in the event of an emergency. According to platoon marshal René Fischer, in addition to the existing security concept, there will also be a registration office for victims of sexual harassment on Paulsplatz for the first time.

The carnival parade itself is intended to encourage discussion among citizens with "polarizing floats" featuring Vladimir Putin, former Frankfurt mayor Peter Feldmann and Fifa President Gianni Infantino. According to Heilmann, the carnival customs should be taken into account again. "The people of Frankfurt, and above all the children, deserve it," said the Council President.
